Spotify Readies 'Supremium' Plan with Lossless Audio Amid Streaming Battle

The proposed upgrade will also include AI-powered playlist curation and advanced mixing tools.

Spotify is dialing up its game in the music streaming wars with a potential new offering, "Supremium," set to provide lossless audio quality that rivals CD formats at 24-bit/44.1kHz.

This comes after earlier promises in 2021 for a HiFi tier, which seemed to have fizzled out. The proposed upgrade will also include AI-powered playlist curation and advanced mixing tools.

The catch? Supremium adds a few extra dollars to your Spotify monthly bill, on top of the existing $10.99 premium plan. This pricing strategy could position Spotify distinctively as it seeks to enhance user experience and revenue amidst fierce competition from Apple Music and Amazon.

Spotify’s potential shift to higher-priced subscriptions comes as part of a broader strategy to boost profitability, having reached over 500 million monthly active users and more than 210 million premium subscribers.

It will allow users to generate a playlist based on written AI prompts.

While Spotify's "Supremium" could represent a significant audio upgrade for music lovers willing to pay a premium, the company faces the challenging task of convincing a broader audience that the enhanced audio experience is worth the extra cost, especially when competitors like Apple Music integrate similar features into their existing plans without added charges.

Whether Spotify will move forward with this tier remains a finely-tuned question as consumer feedback and market dynamics continue to play a crucial role in shaping its offerings.
