For giving Nollywood movies a new home online and making it accessible for free to movie lovers; for revolutionising the way we watch movies and listen to music online, Jason Chukwuma Njoku is TechLoy’s 2011 Person of the Year.

Meet Jason Njoku: The Blackist

After about 5 years of being broke living off £200 per month in London, England and having ran several failed ventures, Jason became obsessively crazy with Nollywood, Nigeria’s movie industry in 2010.

With a loan from his business partner, Bastian Gotter, he started his company Iroko Partners in the UK and moved back home to Nigeria with the goal of disrupting the movie industry.

One year later, Nollywood movies now has a dedicated channel on Youtube after his company bought the exclusive rights to Nollywood movies and provides them to Nollywood lovers globally for free.

His company, Iroko Partners currently has over 60 staff and has made over $1 million in revenues mainly from adverts on movies on its Youtube channel, NollywoodLove alone.

Iroko Partners has now successfully launched, arguably, the three most exciting platforms of the Nigerian Internet entertainment space, namely,  iROKOtv.comiROKtv and

During 2011, Iroko Partners generated approximately 152 million views across its NollywoodLove, YorubaLove and short-clip channels. It is expected that this could grow to over 300 million views across its YouTube channels and movies channel.

Through its music streaming platform,, the company has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to demonstrate to artists how their content should be valued.

According to Jason Njoku, “We are growing the $-revenue value of Nigerian music industry. In a mere 12 months, IROKO created a million-dollar digital market place for Nollywood movies. We are the largest licensee of Nollywood movies.”

Having signed and sealed exclusive deals with a huge array of Nigerian artists to distribute their music digitally and manage their content exclusively online as well as being the only company with the sole rights to distribute Nollywood movies online, Iroko Partners has succeeded in disrupting the Nigerian entertainment industry as we knew it.
