Google Plus Has Just Over 75,000 Users in Nigeria [STATS]
Google’s social network, Plus which hit 90 million users worldwide in January 2012 has just over 75,000 users in Nigeria since its launch in June 2011, according to a recent report by PlusDemographics.
PlusDemographics is the first commercial application to provide deep demographical insight into Google+ and has been monitoring Google+ since it launched.
According to the report, Egypt has the most Google+ users in Africa with 478,449 users; South Africa comes 2nd with 466,828 users; and Morocco is ranked 3rd with 199,288 users as at January 30, 2012.
Other African countries with a significant number of Google+ users are: Tunisia (104,699), Algeria (95,839), Kenya (94,313), Nigeria (75, 413), Ghana (35,332) as at January 30, 2012.
Here are some of the highlights of the report on Google+ users in Nigeria:
- 49.14% of users in Nigeria are single, 26.3% of users are married, while 12.4% are in a relationship.
- 36.6% of users in Nigeria are looking for friends, 36.22% are looking for networking, 15% are looking for relationship, while 12.2% are looking to date on the social network.
- 84.7% of users in Nigeria are males, while 14.6% are females.
- the majority of users in Nigeria, 50.9%, fall into the 18-24 age range, 33% are between 25-34, while 10.3% are within the age range of 35-44 years.
- most of the users in Nigeria are students (20.41%). Other users include consultants, professionals and entrepreneurs.
- 41.7% of the users are in Lagos, 18.4% are based in Nassarawa, 10.2% are in Abuja, 4.86% in Kebbi and 3.16% in Oyo.
- top cities in Nigeria are Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Ibadan and Kaduna.
Surprisingly, the notable users of Google+ in Nigeria doesn’t have any Google Nigeria employee. We’re guessing that they use Facebook more
In fact, the last time I posted on Google+ was on November 15, 2011, about 3 months ago.
The stats also went as far as breaking down the other social media sites that Google+ users are using heavily. The stats revealed that:
- 47.7% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Facebook activity, while 52.3% are not.
- 41% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Twitter activity, while 59% are not.
- 17% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Yahoo! activity, while 83% are not.
- 15.5% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in YouTube activity, while 84.5% are not
- 14.26% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Google Reader activity, while 85.7% are not
- 13.4% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in LinkedIn activity, while 86.6% are not.
- 7% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Blogger activity, while 93% are not.
- 5.3% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Windows Live activity, while 94.7% are not.
- 3.6% of Google+ users in Nigeria are engaged in Flickr activity, while 96.5are not.
- 3.2% of Google+ Users in Nigeria are engaged in Myspace activity, while 96.8% are not.
Other social media sites such as Last.fm, Quora, About.me, Delicious, FriendFeed, SoundCloud, Foursquare, Digg, Formspring and Githhub attracted less than 1% Google+ user engagement in Nigeria.
