Nigerian computer manufacturer, Omatek Computers is said to be building a multi-billion naira factory powered by solar in Nigeria, according to several local sites.

The company, founded in 1986, produces computers and casings from completely knocked down (CKD) components sourced from the highest grades of manufacturers.

The new solar-powered factory expected to take off immediately is the first of its kind in Africa and would be a major income revenue for the company providing 24-hour power to homes, offices, schools, hospitals and hotels.

“Our new factory to take off immediately will include the new Solar Panel and the new LED bulbs and lighting factories,” said Mrs. Florence Seriki, MD/CEO of Omatek Ventures Plc.

She further said that the LED bulbs last 3-5 years without maintenance and the regular 42W flourescent bulbs had been reduced to 9W for 2ft and 13W for 4ft bulbs, thus reducing consumption by over 85%.

The company’s new focus in producing LED bulbs and lightnings shows its ambition to solve the power problems of the country.

Omatek, the only computer manufacturer listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange since 2008, said the new factory is aimed at consolidating on its achievements and its extensive presence in Nigeria.
