Google Acquires Meebo To Boost Its Foray Into Social Networking

Google has acquired Meebo for an undisclosed sum, after news that the two companies were in acquisition talks was first reported by AllThingsD in mid-May. The acquisition which was announced Monday will bring more tools to Google Plus, and attempt to compete more with Facebook. Meebo was founded in 2005 as a messaging app for the browser, but has since built other communication features used by an audience of about 100 million Web people in the U.S.
