Nigerian telecommunications company, Globacom today announced that it has suspended its promotional offers, otherwise known as ‘lottery’, following the Nigeria Communications Commission directive to all telecom operators.
We earlier reported today that the Commission banned all telecom operators from engaging in promotions and other lotteries, in a move perceived as a response to the prevailing poor service being experienced by subscribers across the country.
In a post on its Facebook page, the telecoms company said:
“Dear Customer, in line with NCC directive to all GSM Operators, the following GLO promotional offers have been suspended; Text4Millions Season 3, Triple Instant Bonus, Made for life & 500% usage bonus. Any inconvenience is highly regretted.”
What this means is that customers would no longer received promotional messages from the mobile operator that offer bonuses as well as other lotteries that offer prize money and gift items.
The company has since relied on such promotional campaigns as a revenue model to boost its profitability in the highly competitive telecoms market.
Contrary to expectations, the promotional campaigns have neither increased the company’s subscriber base significantly nor positioned it as a reliable and trusted telecoms service provider.
Now that the telecoms company has suspended such desperate marketing efforts, it is hoped that the company would focus on the primary reason why they are in business – to satisfy their customers.
