Over 50 Remote Communities in Niger Get Mobile Connectivity For The First Time
An average of 1,200 people in about 50 off-grid remote village communities each in Niger have been connected to mobile technology for the first time ever, thanks to a partnership between Orange and Altobridge, a technology supplier to Orange Niger. Driven by sustainable energy sources, the network rollout is said to be delivering services such as mobile health, money transfer and trade within the communities. Before now, network connection was limited in those remote areas due to the impracticality of terrestrial backhaul, the cost of fuel transportation and the high costs of deploying traditional tower structures.
