When price comparison site, PriceCheck launched last December in Nigeria, it was not really a price comparison site.
As we noted in our initial review, it simply didn’t offer much options for product price or flight comparisons, so we couldn’t really ascertain how intelligent the comparison engine was.
Today, the service announced that it has added Konga, one of the leading online retailers to help customers compare the prices of products before shopping. Before now, the site only featured products from a single online retailer, Jumia, but now users can compare prices from both shops offering over a million products available for consumers.
However, since Jumia has a larger product catalogue when compared to Konga, we found that most product prices from mobile phones to books are really not available in more than one shop, so you can only expect to compare product prices from more than one shop if Konga has that product listed.
The site is also yet to allow consumers to compare products and services such as broadband, car rental, etc as its the case with its sister site in South Africa.
While PriceCheck may be Africa’s leading price comparison site, in terms of its reach, its over 30 million product catalogue, over 6,000 categories and over 400 retail shops, it’s still a very young service that is growing at a very slow rate in the Nigerian market, although with huge potentials.
