ICANN President Plans Major African Expansion
The President of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Fadi Chehadé has announced plans to have six new ICANN representatives on the African continent. According to the ICANN leader, there would also be a dramatic increase in the number of accredited Domain Name Registrars in the continent. With only five accredited Registrars currently, Chehadé plans to increase that five-fold in less than two years. The move is part of ICANN’s commitment to help implement a three-year strategy in coordination with its global and regional partners in Africa.
