NiRA Targets 100,000 .NG SLD Registrations By Q2 2013
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association of Nigeria (NiRA), official domain registrar of Nigeria’s country Top-Level domain name (ccTLD), has set a target of 100,000 .ng second-level domains registrations by the end of the second quarter or 2013, reports Technology Times. Citing the Chief Operating Officer of the registrar, Ope Odusan, the ICT newspaper said that at the end of last year, only 26,000 .ng domain names were registered, a development which has prompted NiRA to explore new ways of generating interest in the local domain name space. As a result, the registrar today opened up the second level .ng domain for general registration at a price of N15, 000, in a bid to drive massive uptake of the country’s online identity within the Internet community.
