Twitter Adds Five New Cities In Nigeria To Its Local Trends
About two years after adding local trends from Lagos, Nigeria to its Local Trends list, popular information network, Twitter has now added five more cities in the West African country.
The cities include Benin City, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano and Port Harcourt which all appear to have decent tweet volumes coming from these cities. On the other hand, Lagos, apparently the largest Twitter community in Nigeria appeared first on Twitter’s ‘Local Trends’ in April 2011 and has since shown what people are talking most about in the city with over 20 million inhabitants.
Twitter initially launched ‘its ‘Local Trends’ in a few countries back in January 2010 and have explained that “locations are not manually selected, but rather displayed dynamically based on tweet volume.”
It is particularly surprising that Abuja, the country’s capital city doesn’t get that much tweet volume to be listed on the Twitter Local Trends map.
Are you based in any of these cites? What does the local trend say people are talking about?
