iDEA Launches New Innovation Hub In Calabar
iDEA, a new innovation hub located at the Tinapa Knowledge City in Calabar is launching on August 2 to help local entrepreneurs build the next big software, solution and service for Nigeria’s growing technology industry.
Back in April this year, the hub unveiled its Lagos centre right at the heart of the innovation cluster in Yaba with four developers’ sessions facilitated by Google, Blackberry, Microsoft and Nokia which provided entrepreneurs support to build software skills, solutions and businesses critical to their success.
The launch of iDEA’s new Tinapa centre will be preceded by the iDEA Hackathon, a 42-hour app-building contest starting on July 30 to give developers, designers, and entrepreneurs the chance to create applications which showcase the vibrancy of Nigeria’s film/entertainment industry and the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Developers will be challenged to come up with ideas, create teams, build a prototype of their app — whether it be mobile or web apps, widgets or games — and finally present them to iDEA’s Hackathon judges (made up of leading entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and celebrity judges) for a chance to win cash prize of up to N450,000 along with devices and software.
If you’re a Nigerian app developer and interested in the Hackathon, you would need to register via iDEA’s Facebook page and follow the rules in order to be invited to the 42-hour hackathon at the Tinapa Knowledge City.
