EXCLUSIVE: Konga Moves Into Its 120,000 sqft Warehouse, Hires New Operations Chief
In a move that could boost its operational efficiency and logistics, leading online shopping mall, Konga.com has moved into its 120,000 sqft warehouse located in the Isolo area of the Lagos mainland, TechLoy has exclusively learnt.
This news comes a few months after the company’s major competitor, JUMIA moved into its own 90,000 square foot warehouse located in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
But Konga’s new warehouse would not only serve as a fulfilment centre enabling the company to hold a much larger volume of a range of products, including books and electronics, it would help provide warehousing logistics to hundreds of merchants who own their online stores on its mall, launched back in April.
While the e-commerce company has been known for lightning fast delivery times, in many cases, within a few hours, since inception, it seems that its recent hire of a new Chief Operations Officer, Alex Kamara would enable the company hit its key performance indicators for product availability, delivery times, warehouse operations amongst other things.
Kamara, who was previously the Chief Operations Officer of Millicom Ghana Limited, former Chief Executive Officer of TIGO Rwanda and recently the Head of Regulatory Affairs – Africa at Millicom International Cellular, would be responsible for the build out of a more effective logistics system and the development of a better customer experience team at Konga.
The company’s founder & CEO, Sim Shagaya, had earlier noted in a TechLoy interview that building a strong logistics infrastructure and providing excellent customer service has been the key to his company’s phenomenal success in the e-commerce space.
In August, Konga went on a hiring spree for various roles to firm up its staff strength of over 400 across its operations in Nigeria.
