African startups to jostle for top spot at Seedstars World finals tomorrow

Tomorrow in Switzerland, the finals of the Seedstars World startup competition, an international startup competition investing in top entrepreneurs from emerging markets, will take place.

Throughout last year, the Seedstars World team travelled to about 54 countries across the world in search of the best tech startups to invest in.

The adventure led to the selection of 63 startups – 16 from Africa – who will all be competing with each other for the mouth-watering investment at stake.

All the finalists have touched down in Switzerland, and for two days, have been mentored by a group of domain experts, serial entrepreneurs and corporate leaders in preparation for the D-day.

The finalists will all pitch to an international and prestigious jury on March 3, 2016 at the SwissTech Convention Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland for a chance to emerge winner.

The winning startup will be crowned with the prestigious denomination ‘Seedstars World Best Startup’ and will receive US$1.5million in investment.

Other exciting prizes will be won by various startups, courtesy of the event partners, who are too many to mention.

The event promises to be filled with excitement as breakout sessions, panel discussions and specialized workshops are lined up. The best minds from the fast growing startup scenes of Africa, Asia, LATAM, CEE and the MENA region will be present.

In February 2015, Philippine startup, Salarium – an end-to-end payroll system providing time and attendance keeping, payroll and expense processing, and salary disbursement – emerged winner of the 2014 Seedstars World.

2013-founded and Switzerland-headquartered Seedstars World has a simple vision: to reduce unemployment in emerging markets through the promotion and investment in entrepreneurship.
