I’m sure you remember WhatsApp said it would no longer support BB devices, and that Facebook followed suit, saying it will discontinue support of their essential APIs for BlackBerry.
Also, recall that BlackBerry Ltd asked its users to show their displeasure with these decisions on Twitter using the hashtag #ILoveBB10Apps
Well, the ‘fight’ has paid off (or so it seems) as Facebook decided to work with the peeps at BlackBerry Ltd to find a solution, and the best they could come up with is a web-based Facebook app.
The web-based Facebook app, which has been updated already, will replace the native app for BlackBerry 10 and BBOS.
The new web-based Facebook app provides additional features not available on the native app, such as
- Ability to reply to comments and see replies to comments.
- All posts should be loaded, no more “News feed could not be retrieved” or “Post could not be loaded” messages (unless the post was actually removed).
- Any features available to Facebook website users will be available to you in the updated app.
BlackBerry 10 and BBOS users are required to update their native Facebook app to the web-based Facebook app as the former will stop working on March 31 (yesterday).
What do you think of this supposed solution? Are you of the opinion that this isn’t a solution or that both parties have done well? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.
By the way, the Facebook app is available on the PRIV by BlackBerry (obviously, since the PRIV runs on Android)
