Gearbox commences regular training for members and non-members

Gearbox, Kenya’s first open makerspace for design and prototyping, has announced the commencement of regular scheduled training for both members [1] and non-members.

Before commencement of training, there’ll be an orientation which is free of charge for members, and is required for all new members before they can use any equipment at Gearbox.

The training will include Safety and Basic Use (SBU) [2] courses. This is required for many (not all) machines before they can be used.

All SBUs are free for members, but are subject to a small lab fee of KSh 500 per course to cover the cost of materials. SBUs will cost KSh 3000 per course for non-members.

The Level 2 courses cover advanced material beyond Safety and Basic Use, and are subject to a fee (varies depending on the course) for both members and non-members.

Interested participants should register for any course by calling 0790.406.265 during business hours (Mon – Fri, 10:00 – 18:00 hours).

Payments are expected to be made via M-PESA and are due at the time of registration. The Gearbox training calendar can be downloaded here.

[1] Applications are still being accepted for individuals or teams interested in becoming Gearbox members.

[2] All SBUs are limited to a maximum of 5 people per course so that everyone has plenty of time to use the equipment.
