Popular taxi hailing service, Uber South Africa has announced the launch of UberGreen in Jo’burg, allowing riders to request an eco-friendly ride.
A pilot project, UberGREEN offers 100% electric rides with the BMW i3 and Nissan LEAF at uberX prices.
At the moment, only top Uber riders and WRewards members in Jo’burg can access UberGREEN and they will do so from May 4 to May 8, 2016 before everyone else in Jo’burg can use the service from May 9 to June 3, 2016.
Throughout this period (6 weeks precisely), the CO2 emissions saved during these UberGREEN rides will be measured.
This will help Uber South Africa find out the impact of carbon-free, on-demand travel in reducing CO2 emissions in the country.
How to ride with UberGREEN.
- Open your Uber app.
- Select the UberGREEN option.
- Set your pickup location and request a ride as you normally would.
- If successful, you could find yourself taking a trip in an electric car.
Due to the fact that UberGREEN is a pilot project, the number of electric cars will be limited, and demand for them will definitely be high.
