Edu management startup, Tutorama wins Seedstars Alexandria

Tutorama, an education management startup, has won Seedstars Alexandria, an international startup competition investing in top entrepreneurs from emerging markets.

Tutorama is a highly curated marketplace connecting parents with top quality tutors for their children.

Following calls for applications, Tutorama and 12 other startups were selected to pitch in front of a panel of judges at the event.

After the pitches, which were split into two sessions, and deliberations, the judges adjudged Tutorama the winner of the competition.

Referred as the Airbnb of tutoring, Tutorama is used by parents and students to discover amazing tutors in their locality, narrowing down their search by subject, curriculum and credentials

Tutorama takes care of scheduling and billing, and provides a centralized location for progress monitoring.

The Cairo-based startup will go on to compete for US$500,000 in equity investment at the global finals of the competition in Switzerland.

The event took place on May 7, 2016 during the Techne Summit which held at the monumental Bibliotheca Alexandrina on May 7 – 8.

Seedstars Alexandria is the first to hold in Africa this year. The Seedstars World team will tour 19 other African countries before the year runs out in search of the continent’s most promising tech startups.

The next Seedstars event in Africa will take place in Tunisia on May 18, 2016 at the Dauphine Universite Paris in Tunis.

Through this competition, 2013-founded and Switzerland-headquartered Seedstars World aims to reduce unemployment in Africa through the promotion and investment in entrepreneurship.
