South Africa’s Hello Paisa and The Sun Exchange, and Cameroon’s WeCashUp have been selected winners of the 2016 Innotribe Startup Challenge for Africa.
The competition is aimed at giving young African financial technology startups the opportunity to showcase their products and receive expert coaching and mentoring.
After the pitch session at the finals, the audience voted the three aforementioned startups as winners.
WeCashUp is a cross border mobile money platform that enables users to make secure payments via their mobile phones all across Africa.
All the three winners each received a cash prize of US$10,000 and invitations to attend Sibos, SWIFT’s annual global financial services conference, taking place from September 26-29, 2016 in Geneva.
At Sibos, they’ll have the opportunity to share the stage with FinTech experts, providing great insights on innovation happening across Africa to the financial industry at large.
The winners were announced on May 18, 2016 during the SWIFT African Regional Conference (ARC) in Mauritius.
This is the second edition of the Innotribe Startup Challenge for Africa. The first edition last year saw Ugandan startup, iwiafrica and South Africa-based YueDiligence showcasing their product at Sibos.
