Using the fund, granted through Microsoft’s Affordable Access Initiative, Ekovolt will roll out a series of solutions that will give currently underserved communities and markets access to the Internet at truly affordable prices.
Through its Volt Internet services, Ekovolt will also help SMEs to access affordable cloud services and bundled products, which will give them the potential to dramatically improve their business processes.
It will do this using solutions such as Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Skype for Business and apps running on Azure – these solutions are also part of the grant.
“We have always been passionate about providing the very best possible wireless broadband and technology services at the most affordable prices, so we are incredibly proud to be a part of this noble initiative as we truly believe in this and commend Microsoft for leading affordable access globally,” said Emeka Ebo, Managing Director of Ekovolt.
He added, “We very much look forward to making an impact through the Affordable Access Initiative here at home (Nigeria).”
The telco’s Volt Internet plans are designed to deliver dedicated and reliable Internet connections to businesses (small or large).
Through its wide variety of scalable technology solutions – email, web hosting, secure shared online work spaces and storage – the telco will enable businesses to grow and succeed.
In the future, the company will deliver Internet connectivity via TV white spaces – it is already conducting trials in this regard.
“With more than half of the world’s population lacking access to the Internet, connectivity is a global challenge that demands creative problem solving,” said Peggy Johnson, executive vice president of business development at Microsoft.
She added, “By using technology that’s available now and partnering with local entrepreneurs who understand the needs of their communities, our hope is to create sustainable solutions that will not only have impact today but also in the years to come.”
Founded in December 2014, Ekovolt Telco Limited is looking to redefine broadband access to users in Nigeria.
