In his one year anniversary speech on May 29, 2016 – Democracy Day – the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, announced several projects to be undertaken next year.
First on the list is the installation of a fiber optic network around Lagos to boost broadband access to homes and offices in the State.
Although further details of the project were not disclosed – I expect them to be made public in due course – it is expected to be done and dusted before the end of 2017.
With more and more businesses (both big and small) relying on the Internet to run efficiently, this news couldn’t have come at a better time.
One of the administration’s vision is to make Lagos a prosperous State with a robust economy. This fiber optic project will sure help in that regard.
“Fellow Lagosians, I renew my oath and pledge to serve you diligently, with passion, love and perseverance. I have always wanted to serve and I just ask that you continue to give me the cooperation to serve you and together, we will all realise the Lagos of our dreams where we thrive and not just survive,” said His Excellency.
He added, “I also ask you to dream along with me as we actualize a vision of a vibrant, non-discriminatory, clean, prosperous, safe Lagos that we can all be proud of and God will help us all achieve our dreams.”
