Known as ChatBanking, the app enables Absa customers to do their banking from the comfort of their Twitter account without having to interrupt their tweeting activities.
The app, which the bank claims is the “first service in Africa which allows you to conduct your day-to-day banking from your Twitter account”, is convenient, secure and private. Users’ personal information and account numbers are protected and not displayed in a chat.
“The launch of ChatBanking on Twitter shows our commitment to delight our customers and offer them a smooth digital banking experience – from start to finish, in real time and now also on their favourite social media platform,” said Ashley Veasey, Group Chief Information Officer and Chief Digital Officer at Barclays Africa.
The bank will roll out a similar service on other social media platforms in the nearest future.
This is not the first time the bank is launching an innovative digital product. Already, its customers have the ability to do online debit order reversals. It also has an online FICA document upload service as well as reverse billing for customers who interact with its banking app.
With these digital products, and others to be launched later, the bank claims it is building its future.
