The Africa Energy Generation Prize is a pan-African innovation and invention contest for affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
Through the contest, young Africans with sustainable and affordable solutions that solves the problem of access to electricity in the continent will be rewarded.
The reward includes a 4 months intensive acceleration programme in partnership with WɔɛLab, described as the First African Space of Technological Democracy, which is based in Lomé, Togo.
At WɔɛLab, the four winners of the Africa Energy Generation Prize will have their ideas turned into working prototypes and then to actual products.
After the acceleration phase, the most advanced projects will be integrated into the Energy Academy, an entrepreneurship education program to support young social entrepreneurs specializing in the basic electrification access sector.
Applications for the contest will open on June 10, 2016 and close on August 15, 2016. Results will be announced on August 22, 2016 with the accelerator commencing in September 2016 and the projects accepted into the Energy Academy in the January 2017.
Energy Generation launched the Africa Energy Generation Prize because it believed the African youths has the potential to solve the problem of access to electricity in the space of a generation.
