Alpha Pitch to take place at Demo Africa in Johannesburg

DEMO Africa, one of the flagship initiatives of LIONS@frica and described as the “launchpad for emerging technology and trends”, has announced it will re-introduce the Alpha Pitch in this year’s launch event in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The announcement was made in Lagos, Nigeria by Mr. Mbugua Njihia, the Event Director after presiding over the Nigerian leg of the Innovation Tours, which was won by Shuttlers, a multi staff bus/ridesharing platform.

The Alpha Pitch is an elevator pitch that targets younger entrepreneurs who are still working on their business ideas.

“We have a huge pipeline of venture and we are looking for new ways of getting more venture on stage so that they can get the exposure they need and also network with potential investors,” said Mr Njihia.

Already, over 500 ventures have applied to launch at the event.

Applications for the event closed on the June 15, 2016, and will be followed by a rigorous adjudication process which is expected to last 3 weeks.

The final companies to launch their products at the DEMO Africa stage will then be announced early in July.

The 2016 edition of DEMO Africa will take place from August 25 – 26, 2016 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The event, which is expected to be attended by over 600 people, will be held in collaboration with the LIONS@frica partners, the City of Johannesburg and the South African Department of Science and Technology.

Launched in 2012 in Nairobi, DEMO Africa aims to connect African startups to the global ecosystem. SimbaPay, a leading digital money transfer provider, won the 2015 edition of the event.
