Couple of days back, the startup announced it was throwing its hat into the ride hailing space, which currently has Uber bossing it with Safaricom’s recently launched Little Cab looking to compete too!
Over the weekend, the startup officially launched the service, providing riders with rides in both Bodas Bodas and Cabs.
From the Sendy mobile app, riders can request the RIDE service, just as they would a package, and be sure to get picked up to their destination.
The RIDE service providers (Cab or Boda Boda owners) are carefully selected in a process that includes documentation, exams, and weekly trainings to ensure safety and a pleasurable experience for riders.
“With a solid team of local experts, two years of operational experience on the ground in Nairobi, and a developed technical platform, we’ve positioned ourselves well to offer premium transportation services with modern technology and quality customer service,” Sendy stated in a blog post.
To use RIDE, simply download and install the Sendy mobile app (it’s available on Android, iOS and the web) and make a request. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and payments can be made using cash, MPesa, or card.
To promote RIDE, Sendy is running a promotion all month. If you use the service, you get to enjoy a 50% discount.
Sendy believes its foray into the ride hailing is just a natural extension of what it already does – connecting individuals and businesses looking to move packages with on-demand, trusted, and transparent service providers.
“…thus, we believe it’s a natural extension of our core expertise to also connect our users to quality certified transportation providers,” it stated.
The ride hailing space in Kenya is getting heated up gradually. Uber is already doing its thing – it recently extended its service to a third Kenyan city – while Little Cab is looking to become the numero uno by adding extra benefits for riders such as in-car WiFi and entertainment.
