30 innovative startups have been selected for the finals of the inaugural Aso Villa Demo Day, an event aimed at celebrating some of the best Nigerians in technology innovation and creativity.
Following calls for applications, several startups were selected to take part in the first leg of the event – a pitch session in Lagos on June 23, 2016 – to determine the eventual finalists.
The finals was slated for July 28, 2016 in Abuja but after the Lagos event, the Government went mute on the tech community (and Nigerians as a whole).
Their silence on the event of course led to constructive (and destructive) rants from different quarters.
After much wait, the 30 (we were initially told 50 will be selected) startups to pitch at the finals have been announced. The image below shows them all.
On a yet to be announced date, the finalists will be unveiled right in front of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Conference Center, Abuja.
The President will host the startups as they pitch to an enthusiastic audience of investors, incubators, public and private sector decision makers.
The event will be an avenue for the startups to get the needed resources to move to the next level.
Aside the pitch session, the event will also feature inspiring talks from thought leaders and experts from different economic sectors in Nigeria.
The Aso Villa Demo Day is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation and economic growth through the use of new and emerging technologies. It is an initiative of the Presidency.
