At the time, the young lad’s name, his startup and the amount of funds invested weren’t made public. However, that information is now in the public domain and he’s none other than Andrew Airelobhegbe.
The 23 years old entrepreneur is the co-founder and CEO of OgaVenue, a leading and probably the largest event venue booking portal in Nigeria.
ogaVenue makes it easy to find reception halls, venues for your wedding receptions, birthday parties and book marquee, conference centres, party halls, convention centres and various types of event centres.
Each venue listing on ogaVenue provides detailed information including availability, location, capacity, facilities, costings, images (including virtual 360° visits) and policies. Users can also read reviews given by other ogaVenue users.
According to Andrew, within the first few months after launch in 2015, the company was receiving over 60 requests a week regarding venue bookings and listings.
ogaVenue currently lists over 2,000 professional event venues in Nigeria and are expanding its inventory on a daily basis.
Regarding the investment, ogaVenue secured a US$45,000 seed investment from Spark, the investment company founded by Jason.
The startup will use the funds to increase inventory, expand to more states across Nigeria and build out the product, engineering and business development team.
“We are incredibly excited to join the Spark family as it houses some of the most successful startups in Nigeria and arguably as helped to grow the most successful founders in Nigeria,” Andrew said.
Also participating in the funding round is Hotels.ng, an online travel agency specialising in hotel bookings within Nigeria founded by Mark Essien.
He said, “For us, the ogaVenue deal was a no brainer. Andrew is probably the smartest young entrepreneur in the ecosystem, and he has built a business that’s showing amazing numbers and traction. Seeing how closely his business is related to ours, it was obvious that getting involved in this deal would be to both of our advantages – there are clear synergies that can be leveraged on to accelerate growth in both the hotel and the event segments.”
