Instagram wants to suggest stories from people you don’t follow

After launching a Stories feature quite similar to Snapchat, Instagram is hoping to land another blow in its battle with Snapchat by suggesting stories from people you currently don’t follow by harnessing the power of Facebook’s algorithmic expertise to begin surfacing Instagram Stories from people you don’t already follow, according to a report from TechCrunch.

With Snapchat currently not recommending accounts to watch “snaps”,  Instagram aims to have the advantage by showing from atop the Explore tab some users a bar of Stories from accounts you could follow, with the feature rolling out to everyone soon. Based on who you follow and the topics you care about, the tailored recommendations will make it easy to add someone new to your Home feed’s Stories section.

Instagram recently said 100 million people visits its Explore tab every day — That’s one-fifth of Instagram’s 500 million monthly users, and one-third of the app’s daily actives, so the suggestions should get lots of attention.
