MEST’s next Show & Tell is about machine learning, and its happening on the 16th

Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), a Ghana-based business incubator and accelerator, has announced its next Show & Tell is happening on September 16, 2016 with machine learning being the topic of discussion.

Powerful machine learning APIs allow everyone to introduce previously advanced functionality into everyday apps. These APIs include the Google Cloud Vision, Natural Language, and Speech APIs.

With these APIs, one can do speech recognition (convert audio to text), for over 80 languages, and extract information about entities (people, places, events, etc.), detect sentiment, extract sentence structure, and more.

Also, one can use the APIs to label things in an image (e.g “sailboat”, “lion”, “Eiffel Tower”); detect faces, logos, and landmarks in images; do OCR; recognize ‘explicit’ content, and more.

Speaking at the event will be Amy Unruh, a Developer Programs Engineer for the Google Cloud Platform, with a focus on machine learning and data analytics as well as other Cloud Platform technologies.

She has an academic background in CS/AI and has also worked at several startups, done industrial R&D, and published a book on App Engine.

Members of Ghana tech and business ecosystem interested in learning how to add machine learning functionality to their apps can register to attend this event.

The event will take place on the aforementioned date from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (GMT) at the Meltwater Incubator in Accra, Ghana.

The Show & Tell, which takes place from time to time, is an avenue for members of the Ghana tech and business ecosystem to share what they’re working on with the entire community. It’s always free!
