Switzerland-based Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, has announced it is accepting applications for its inaugural event in Zimbabwe.
Seedstars Harare, as the competition is tagged, will follow the same pattern as other Seedstars events: a few startups gets selected for the finals to pitch to a jury with the winner going on to rep the country at the global finals.
“Seedstars World is a platform connecting investors to the next generation of startup entrepreneurs, pulling the spotlight from Silicon Valley and Western Europe. As this will be our first time ever to organize our event in Harare, our excitement level and expectations are high. We have heard so much about the bustling startup ecosystem in Zimbabwe and we are now here to witness the reality,” said Selam Kebede, Associate at Seedstars World.
She added, “We are impressed by what we have seen in the continent so far and cannot wait to add Zimbabwean startups on our map.”
Startups that are less than 2 years old, have raised less than USD 500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction, can apply for the competition by October 20, 2016.
The final will hold on October 30, 2016 at the Impact Hub Harare, a space for entrepreneurs and social innovators to build and develop start ups and social enterprises.
Seedstars World is organized in partnership with Impact Hub Harare, and supported by Microsoft 4Afrika, Intel and Omidyar Network.
“Impact Hub Harare is excited about hosting Seed StarsWorld in Zimbabwe for the first time. This is really a great opportunity to have our local “hustle” on a global stage and for the “hustlers” themselves to learn from other innovators worldwide,” said Tadzoka Pswarayi, co-founder at Impact Hub Network, Harare.
