SA’s alcohol delivery app, BOTTLES raises US$36,000 on Shark Tank

BOTTLES, a South African on-demand alcohol delivery app, has raised US$36,000 (ZAR500,000) on Shark Tank, a local version of the Emmy Award-winning US reality show by the same name.

Launched in 2015, BOTTLES delivers beer, wine and spirits to your doorstep in under 60 minutes from the tap of a button. It currently operates in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria.

BOTTLES’ founders pitched on Shark Tank South Africa recently and received the funds from Gil Oved, co-founder of The Creative Council, in exchange for a 10% stake.

“Attending Shark Tank SA has been an incredible experience for us, we prepared for days on end, watching every past episode of the show available online to make sure we were ready for the questions that we were going to be asked,” said Vincent Viviers, co-founder of BOTTLES.

He added, “This was the opportunity of a lifetime for us. We were nervously excited, and we couldn’t contain our joy when we received offers from 3 Sharks in the Tank – Gil Oved, Marnus Broodryk and Vinny Lingham.”

Aside the funds, Gil Oved promised hands-on mentoring and connection to many other alcohol manufacturers in the country, which the startup will use to scale operations over the next one year.

This investment comes just a few weeks after Gil and Dawn Nathan Jones, former CEO of Euro Car, invested in online wedding planning startup, Plan My Wedding.

Shark Tank South Africa sees entrepreneurs pitch in front of a panel of “sharks” – successful South African business moguls – for investments. Impressed sharks invest their money, and time also.
