Voice banking app VoiceIt has won the 2017 Re: Code Nigeria hackathon, taking home ₦1.5 million and getting one year access to Microsoft Azure and the IBM platform.
Organized by the Africa Fintech Foundry in partnership with Access Bank, Flutterwave, IBM, Microsoft, iDEA Nigeria and others, the hackathon was aimed at building brilliant solutions to the most daunting problems in financial services today.
The event brought together multiple teams of talented developers, designers, problem-solvers, out-of-the-box thinkers, dreamers, doers, makers, and code magicians.
17 teams were formed and for two days – March 24 – 26, 2017 – they hacked financial solutions, with VoiceIt emerging winner after a pitch session.
VoiceIt allows customers carry to out banking operations via voice. Things like checking one’s account balance, transferring funds, and purchasing airtime for one’s mobile phone are done using voice. Simply speak to the app and it goes to work.
Asides the cash prize, the VoiceIt team will receive free training and mentorship from the Africa Fintech Foundry, and given one year free access to the Microsoft Azure and IBM platform.
The Paysense team, which developed a smart payment and financial advice bot nicknamed Victor, placed second while the team that developed Fissit, a financial assistance tool for managing money, tracking expenses, and making payments, came third. They received ₦1 million and ₦500,000 respectively and other prizes.
