For most people, music is a big part of their lives. Because social media experiences can be more fun with music, having access to a wider range of songs means that you can better express yourself.

Imagine creating a montage of your summer vacation and being able to choose any song that perfectly captures those beach vibes from a massive catalog of music on social media.

Instagram now allows users to add multiple audio tracks to Reels
The new multitrack audio feature offers creators expanded creative flexibility on the platform.

Thanks to a new music licensing deal between Universal Music Group (UMG) and Meta – yep, the folks behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp – your social media experience is about to be a lot more fun.

Whether it’s that perfect song for your Instagram story or background music for your latest Facebook video, the deal will allow users to discover new music – and you’re more likely to come across tracks you haven’t heard before, just by browsing through stories or reels.

But what's more interesting is that WhatsApp is included in the deal. While, it is unclear what this means, one thing is for sure: users can expect music-focused features on WhatsApp.

You may soon be able to talk with Meta AI through voice messages on WhatsApp
By bridging the gap between spoken language and artificial intelligence, this feature could forever change the way we interact with technology.

Think about being able to easily share your favorite tracks, lyrics, or even create custom status updates with the perfect song playing in the background. Or perhaps you could send a message and add a snippet of a song to really set the mood.

And talking about mood, you may even be able to set a status with a music clip that reflects your mood for the day, instead of doing this with text and emojis. Talk about more ways to personalize your WhatsApp experience.

Recall that UMG, which represents American pop super stars like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and rapper Drake, was the first major music company to license Facebook back in 2017.

With this deal, it is expanding on the agreement "to further expand the possibilities for music within the meta ecosystem". But more importantly, making music a more central part of our digital communication.

Meta’s new AI tool can respond to your DMs on Instagram — so you don’t have to
It could open up a new era of social interaction.
