Update – July 13, 2023: Amazon announced that the first 24 hours of its Prime Day event marked the “single largest sales day in company history” and that the two-day event was the “biggest Prime Day ever.” Prime members purchased more than 375 million items worldwide and saved more than $2.5 billion on millions of deals across the Amazon store. Across both days, consumers in the U.S. spent $12.7 billion, according to Adobe Analytics data.

Similar to the month of November's "Black Friday" discount sales and Alibaba's November "Singles Day" in China – Amazon Prime Day (usually held in July) offers Amazon Prime subscribers special privileges and early access to discounted sales of gadgets, wears, toiletries and several other items, allowing them to take advantage of irresistible deals.

Now in its ninth year after it was launched in 2015, as a way to celebrate Prime members on Amazon's 20th birthday, Amazon's annual Prime Day has transformed into a quasi-holiday, attracting retailers of all kinds.
