Amazon is investing $7.2 billion in Israel
In a major stride towards bolstering Israel's digital infrastructure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of its local cloud region in the Jewish state, "AWS Israel (Tel Aviv)," after winning the Israeli government's cloud tender.
The move comes alongside the announcement of a significant investment of approximately $7.2 billion in the country over the course of the next 16 years. The investment is expected to contribute approximately $13.9 billion to Israel's gross domestic product.
As part of AWS winning the Israeli government's cloud tender, the new AWS region in Israel will serve as one of the main cloud providers for the "Nimbus" project which aims to offer cloud services to various government bodies, including local authorities, government-owned companies and the public sector, with the goal of promoting innovation and enhancing digital services for Israeli citizens.

According to Yali Rothenberg, accountant general of Israel, the establishment of the AWS Region will enable the country to "migrate substantial governmental workloads to the cloud," and "accelerate digital transformation in the public sector."
AWS continues to establish itself as a global leader in the cloud services domain and is used by mega companies such as Netflix, General Electric, and Sony. With the launch of the AWS Israel region, the company now operates in an extensive network of 102 zones spread across 32 geographical regions worldwide.
With cloud technology being the cornerstone of any successful digital transformation, AWS's entry into Israel holds immense promise for the country's digital landscape.
