Amazon Web Services launches first Nigerian office in Lagos

Amazon Web Services has announced the launch of its Nigerian office in Lagos to address the increase in customer and partner adoption of AWS services in Nigeria.

In a statement, the company said that the office will provide support for the growing number of AWS customers and partners in Nigeria. The centre will cater to organizations of all sizes, including startups, enterprises, and public sector agencies as they make the transition to AWS Cloud.

AWS counts some of Nigeria’s fastest-growing and best-known startups and businesses as customers, including SeamlessHR, Yellow Card, BFree, Bankly, and public sector organizations.

The Lagos office is the latest investment of AWS in the African continent and currently houses a team of account managers, partner managers, solutions architects, and other roles that help support Nigerian customers. In 2004, AWS first established its presence in Cape Town, South Africa.

In 2020, Amazon launched Africa (Cape Town) Region, the first AWS Infrastructure Region in South Africa. In September 2022, the tech giant opened a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa to support growing customer demand for its cloud services.

The three biggest cloud storage providers in the world by market share are Amazon's AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Amazon’s market share in the worldwide cloud infrastructure market amounted to 34% in the second quarter of 2022, exceeding the combined market share of its two largest competitors, Microsoft Azure (21%) and Google Cloud (10%).
