Just 16 weeks after its launch, Anthropic's chatbot, Claude, has reached $1 million in mobile app revenue.

The app which debuted on iOS in May 2024 and expanded to Android in July, has quickly gaining traction in various markets. This rapid growth is particularly impressive considering its late entry compared to some competitors.

The United States led Claude's global growth, accounting for 48.4% of the app's total revenue and 32.5% of its worldwide downloads, according to app intelligence firm Appfigures.

The app has also garnered significant traction in countries like, India with 9.6% share of downloads, Japan with 6.8%, the UK 5.1%, and Germany 3.2%. For global revenue share, after the U.S., Japan contributed 6.7%, Germany 4.3%, the UK 4.3%, and South Korea 2.8%.

Claude's 16-week journey to $1 million in revenue offers an interesting comparison to its competitors. It outpaced Microsoft's Copilot and Perplexity, which took 19 and 22 weeks, respectively, to reach this revenue milestone. However, it lagged behind ChatGPT's impressive three-week sprint to the same figure.

Furthermore, in the U.S. iOS market, Claude, ranking 95th in downloads and 68th in revenue within the productivity category is also by overshadowed ChatGPT's dominant position at the top of overall downloads and 26th in revenue across all iOS apps.

Anthropic unveils a more powerful iteration of its Claude chatbot to challenge OpenAI
In a move amping up the competition in the large language model (LLM) space, Anthropic unveiled the latest iteration of its Claude large language model (LLM) family – Claude 3.5. Debuting with the Sonnet tier, as the Claude 3.5 Sonnet, the model promises significant performance improvements across various benchmarks,

Claude's initial reception was modest, says TechCrunch. In its first week, the iOS app saw 157,000 global downloads, compared to ChatGPT's 480,000 installs in five days during its U.S. iOS launch. Claude's highest U.S. rank came a few days after its iOS debut, reaching number 55 on the top free iPhone app charts.

As the AI chatbot market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Claude's growth trajectory unfolds and whether it can maintain its momentum in the face of increasing competition like ChatGPT, and the new Apple Intelligence, which is expected to bring ChatGPT's AI capabilities to iPhone users.
