Apple 'Glowtime" Event: Apple Intelligence

Apple 'Glowtime" Event: Apple Intelligence

With these new roll-outs, you can enhance your productivity and daily operations without stress

by David Adubiina Emmanuel Oyedeji

After its initial announcement at WWDC24 in June, where Apple showcased a lineup of exciting products, the company is now delivering on its promises, bringing to life its centrepiece—Apple Intelligence.

Among the most anticipated announcements, this AI tool is poised to revolutionize how users interact with their Apple devices by combining generative AI with personal context. This is expected to deliver useful and relevant intelligence that will transform the experience across the board.

Despite Apple's official announcement of the Apple Intelligence features alongside its iPhone 16 launch, these AI capabilities are not coming to the iPhone until October. The Apple Intelligence feature will be available in beta through iOS 18.1. update on the 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and the latest iPhone 16 series.

The features will also be available in beta to other devices in Apple's ecosystem through respective updates on the iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

While it is unusual for Apple to roll out the iOS after the hardware launch, they have promised to make it worth your wait time by September 16, allowing all previous models starting from the iPhone SE series to 15 Pro Max to enjoy the new iOS 18.

We rounded up all the major announcements from the Apple event and what it could mean for all of us!

Meanwhile, the arrival of Apple Intelligence into the Apple ecosystem will allow users to use functionalities, such as:

Intelligent Experience Across Apple Devices

  • By integrating deeply into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence leverages the Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to perform tasks easily — all while protecting users’ privacy and security.
  • The AI-powered Private Cloud Compute will offer flexible scale computational capacity between on-device processing and dedicated Apple silicon servers.
  • Aside from this, users will be able to refine their words by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps with writing tools.

Photos App Functionality

  • The redesigned photo app isn't a bluff anymore, as the Memories feature will now enable users to create the movies they want to see by simply typing a description.
  • In addition, specific photos and moments in video clips can be searched with Natural Language to grant users access to relevant segments. Tools like the new Clean Up can identify and remove distracting objects without accidentally altering your image.

Transcribe And Summarize On The Go

  • While we heard the announcements earlier this year at the WWDC event, it is now a reality for users to record, transcribe, and summarize audio in the Notes and Phone apps. Moreover, when a recording is initiated on a call, you are automatically notified in the Phone app and once it ends, a summary is generated to help recall key points.
  • These functionalities, all powered by Apple Intelligence, help users prioritize and stay in the moment with summarized notifications across apps, and reduce interruptions. Also, Smart Reply in Mail provides users with suggestions for a quick response and identifies questions in an email to ensure everything is answered.

Upgraded Siri

  • In the latest lineup of products, Siri will feature a sleek new design, sporting an elegant glowing light that surrounds the edge of the screen when used on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay; allowing users to transition between text and voice and streamlining tasks.
  • Also, Siri's expanded product knowledge will enable users to learn how to perform various tasks, from capturing a screen recording to sharing a Wi-Fi password effortlessly.

AI Privacy

  • While Apple Intelligence is centred around safeguarding user privacy at every stage, Private Cloud Compute leverages the cloud to extend the privacy and security features of Apple devices, unlocking additional intelligence while ensuring user data is never stored or shared with Apple.
  • Furthermore, users can freely access ChatGPT without needing to create an account, and those who choose to connect an account are subject to ChatGPT's data-use policies.

More Features

  • Apple Intelligence will introduce Image Playground — an entirely new AI application that can generate images and emojis across iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18– allowing users to create playful images in seconds, making it easier than ever to add creativity to their projects.
  • Another tool, Image Wand, brings notes and documents to life by turning rough sketches into polished visuals. For example, when a user circles a space, Image Wand will automatically generate an image based on the context of the surrounding area.
  • Emojis are also getting a major upgrade with Genmoji, enabling users to create personalized, original emojis simply by typing a description or using a photo of a friend or family member. Meanwhile, Siri will become even more intelligent, using personal context to provide tailored assistance and gaining onscreen awareness for smarter interactions. Siri will also support hundreds of new actions across both Apple and third-party apps, making it more versatile than ever.
  • Lastly, users will have seamless access to ChatGPT’s vast knowledge base directly within iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This integration will allow users to tap into ChatGPT’s expertise, including its image and document understanding capabilities without switching between different tools.

Conclusion

As the world embraces AI in more aspects of life, Apple is trying to offer practical and innovative features grounded in its commitment to privacy with its new unveilings.

While these features are still yet to roll out, Apple Intelligence, as one of Apple's core products is undoubtedly set for significant impact. From enhancing productivity to elevating creativity, this AI-driven assistant fulfills Apple's promise to deliver a personalized, seamless, and secure experience.
