Apple is introducing generative AI photo editing tools to its Photos app
With it, users can say goodbye to unwanted photobombers or distracting power lines that ruin otherwise perfect vacation shots.
Apple users might soon be getting a taste of the Android AI photo editing experience, as Apple's Photos app gears up for a major upgrade, with artificial intelligence (AI) taking centre stage.
According to rumours reported by AppleInsider, the app is set to gain powerful new "Generative AI-powered editing tools" that could bring Photoshop-grade editing capabilities to everyday users right on their iPhones, iPads, or Macs (availability across devices remains to be confirmed).
One of the features dubbed "Clean Up" in pre-release versions, is rumoured to replace the current Retouch tool and would reside within the edit menu of the revamped Photos application, alongside existing options for adjustments, filters, and cropping.
But unlike the Retouch tool, the Clean Up feature is expected to offer improved editing capabilities, including removing larger objects within a photo.
The feature will allow users to remove unwanted objects from photos using a brush tool with adjustable sizes for addressing both small and large objects. With it, users can say goodbye to unwanted photobombers or distracting power lines that ruin otherwise perfect vacation shots.
This new tool is expected to make its debut in the Photo App alongside Apple's new operating systems in June. However, with Apple's "Let Loose" event happening today focused on new iPads, there's a possibility we might get a sneak peek at these AI editing tools. This would be a great opportunity for Apple to showcase the processing power of their new iPads and how it can be harnessed for powerful photo editing experiences.
While the Photos app is accessible across various Apple devices, including MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones, it remains uncertain whether these editing tools will be uniformly available on all platforms.
Meanwhile, Apple also has broader plans to enhance applications like Notes, Calculator, Calendar, and Spotlight with iOS 18.
