Apple is putting a fresh coat of paint on its software for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

If you’ve been waiting for a fresh new look on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, Apple has some big changes coming your way. According to Bloomberg, the tech giant is planning its most significant software upgrade in years, bringing a unified and modernized experience across all its devices.

And the best part? We’ll likely get our first glimpse at these updates during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Apple is reportedly redesigning icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons to create a more cohesive look and feel. The revamp is loosely inspired by Vision Pro’s visionOS, Apple’s mixed-reality headset software, meaning we can expect a sleeker user interface.

This upgrade is expected to roll out later this year as iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, marking the biggest Mac software update since 2020’s Big Sur and the most significant iPhone redesign since iOS 7. Apple is calling these projects "Luck" for iOS and iPadOS and "Cheer" for macOS, which suggests an optimistic impact of these updates.

Beyond aesthetics, Apple is also working on simplifying how we navigate and control our devices. This could mean more intuitive gestures, better multitasking, and enhanced accessibility features. However, Apple isn’t planning to merge iPadOS and macOS anytime soon.

There’s also a strategic angle to this redesign. Apple’s device sales have slowed since the pandemic, and a major UI refresh could help rekindle consumer interest. Plus, it might serve as a distraction from delays in Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) rollout, including the much anticipated Siri upgrade, which has now been pushed back to 2026.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset is finally getting a taste of Apple Intelligence
But it may not be the game-changer Apple needs to make the headset a best-seller.

Apple recently introduced AI-powered features in its latest iPads and MacBooks, and it’s expected to bring similar innovations to this software revamp. However, details on how AI will be integrated into iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 remain unclear. What we do know is that Apple Intelligence is slowly expanding, with plans to bring AI capabilities to the Vision Pro headset in a software update later this year.

So, should you be excited? If you love a clean, modern design and a more seamless Apple ecosystem, this update could be just it. But for those who prefer the familiarity of Apple’s current interface, it might take some time to adjust.
