African messaging app Ayoba now has 25 million monthly active users
MTN Group-backed African super app Ayoba has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 25 million monthly active users as it celebrates its fourth anniversary.
Launched in 2019, Ayoba is an instant messaging super app owned by MTN that offers end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer private messaging. The platform provides users with free access to a range of digital and media services, including chat and call features, channels, micro-apps, and payment solutions.
Ayoba is a key component of MTN's Ambition 2025 strategy, which aims to reach 100 million monthly active users by 2025. MTN recently announced that Ayoba has exceeded the 25 million monthly active users mark, up from 20 million in December 2022.
While the platform is available globally, it has a strong focus on the African continent, with key markets including Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, and The Republic of Congo.
In 2023, Ayoba says it focused on enhancing communication and content features, resulting in a 35% increase in messages, a 16% increase in both stories and VoIP calls, and 88 million viewed cards across various channels covering entertainment, education, food, fashion, and more.
Ayoba also introduced a new "explore" landing page for its Android version, currently in the pilot phase and set to be rolled out to key territories in the future.
This page offers a simplified design for easy navigation, showcasing Ayoba's curated high-quality content and highlighting themes to users. The company is committed to ongoing growth, development, and the addition of new features to enhance the Ayoba experience.
