CES 2025: What to Expect from the Largest Global Tech Showcase Event

At the world's biggest tech stage in Vegas, tech companies, big and small, all come together to showcase what might be the future of tech as we know it.

It’s about time again for the world’s biggest consumer electronics event to kick off, and the world can look forward to some possibly groundbreaking innovations from tech companies all over the globe.

The event runs from January 7 to January 11, and over the course of these five days, CES 2025 is set to showcase the future of tech with major players like Nvidia, Samsung, and Seomjae unveiling their latest advancements.

From Nvidia’s literal game-changing GPUs to Samsung collaborating with Microsoft to bring Copilot to its TVs, here’s what you need to keep an eye out for at this year’s CES event!

AI

AI is expected to dominate CES 2025, continuing its rapid expansion across industries, though it may not dominate in the same way as last year.

Major companies like Nvidia and startups such as Seomjae have already teased some AI-driven innovations. Nvidia, for instance, may showcase its new AI chips for PCs. On the other hand, we could see AI's influence extend into areas like home appliances and health tech.

Meanwhile, Seomjae, an EdTech startup, may debut its AI-powered tutoring platform, CHALK, which is expected to feature real-time AI tutoring and gamified learning experiences. Other companies like AMD, Intel and GIGABYTE are also anticipated to reveal AI-driven advancements in their respective fields.

VR, AR, and a Mix of Both

The Virtual Reality (VR) space may not receive as much attention at CES 2025 compared to previous years. In 2024, Meta and Apple made waves with announcements such as Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses (which ultimately didn’t launch) and Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

However, with many major players like Meta and Apple opting to reveal products on their own time, VR innovations are expected to take a backseat this year. Furthermore, the mixed reception of Apple’s Vision Pro in 2024 may have tempered expectations.

While major VR breakthroughs may not be seen at CES 2025, smaller companies will likely focus on addressing niche challenges, continuing the evolution of VR and AR technologies in more specialized applications.

Large Screen Phones Turned TVs

The home entertainment sector is expected to make a notable impact at CES 2025, particularly with the increasing integration of AI into smart TVs.

Samsung has already teased its new Neo QLED 8K models, which are expected to feature the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor and auto-remastering technology. These upgrades aim to elevate the viewing experience, offering stunning 8K resolution and enhanced image quality.

Alongside these models, Samsung's Vision AI might take centre stage, turning TVs into personalized hubs that improve both content delivery and home management. Features like real-time translation, click-to-search (for recipes or other info), and AI-driven recommendations powered by Microsoft's Copilot AI are expected to be highlighted.

But Samsung isn't the only one showcasing their new TV integrations. Google and LG are also set to unveil new offerings like LG with a new OLED lineup with the Alpha 11 AI processor, promising to enhance picture and sound quality and Google reportedly looking to bring Gemini AI to TVs running Google TV.

Other brands are likely to showcase larger screens, 8K displays, and AI-driven features, signalling a potential shift in how we experience home entertainment.

Cars

The automotive presence at CES 2025 seems quieter than usual, with Tesla and GM sitting this one out yet again. But brands like Honda, BMW, and John Deere are stepping in with updates that could reshape mobility.

Honda, for one, is expected to share more on its Zero (0) concept lineup, teasing two sleek electric sedans with futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired designs. BMW on the other hand will likely showcase its “Neue Klasse” platform, introducing a revamped iDrive system and panoramic display to enhance in-car experiences.

Meanwhile, commercial vehicle manufacturers like John Deere and Oshkosh could present battery-powered vehicles for industrial use, signalling that electrification is expanding beyond personal vehicles. This year, the shift appears to be moving from flashy EV launches to smarter, more connected vehicles blending sustainability with digital innovation.

Nissan and Honda to jointly produce EVs
The plan is that both parties would sign a memorandum of understanding which would see them rival their Chinese counterparts.

Smartphones

CES has never been a hotbed for flagship smartphone launches, but this year’s event is expected to spotlight rugged devices and smart peripherals. Ulefone’s AI-powered Armor 28 Ultra series is one phone I'm excited to see for its focus on durability and advanced AI features.

There’s also buzz around non-phones like smart glasses with built-in cameras and AR functionalities. Companies like Vuzix and Nreal are likely to showcase new iterations, signalling that wearable tech could play a bigger role in mobile interactions beyond screens.

While CES may not deliver blockbuster smartphone launches, it’s laying the groundwork for trends that will shape the mobile space in the months ahead.

PC/Gaming

PC gaming at CES 2025 is expected to be all about next-gen GPUs. Nvidia, for one, is expected to debut its RTX 50-series graphics cards at a dedicated keynote, introducing improved DLSS and a rumoured “neural rendering” feature aimed at pushing performance further. AMD will also likely showcase its RDNA 4 GPU architecture with the Radeon RX 9070 XT, positioned as a mid-tier AI alternative to Nvidia’s current lineup.

On the portable gaming front, Lenovo is reportedly unveiling a SteamOS-powered handheld device, with Valve and Microsoft invited to a special gaming event at CES 2025. This signals a growing rivalry between SteamOS and Windows for handheld gaming dominance.

High-refresh-rate OLED monitors are also expected to be a highlight. Asus, Samsung, and MSI are set to showcase new displays with refresh rates up to 240Hz, making CES 2025 a pivotal event for gamers looking to upgrade their setups.

Conclusion

CES 2025 is set to offer a glimpse into the future of tech, with advancements spanning AI, gaming, smart devices, and mobility. While some areas may see fewer groundbreaking launches, the focus on personalization, sustainability, and connected experiences remains clear. As tech continues to embed itself in daily life, CES 2025 stands as a pivotal moment for understanding what’s next in consumer electronics.

You can catch all the major announcements from CES 2025 as companies like Nvidia, AMD, and LG will be streaming their keynotes on platforms like YouTube and their official websites.
