The tablet market, once written off as a fading trend, is making a comeback in the second quarter of 2024.
Recent data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) reveals a surprising 22.1% surge in shipments during Q2 2024, signalling a significant rebound from the previous year and even outpacing pre-pandemic levels. However, it still pales in comparison to the numbers seen during the peak of the pandemic.
This strong recovery in Q2 2024 can be attributed to several factors, with growth driven by new product launches, inventory replenishment, and expansion into new markets.
Looking at vendor performance, Apple continues to dominate the market, with its latest iPad Air and iPad Pro models proving to be a hit with consumers. The company shipped 12.3 million units, with a 18.2% year-over-year growth. Samsung, not far behind, achieved 18.6% growth, shipping 6.9 million units despite the absence of major product launches.
Other tech giants like Lenovo and Huawei in third and fourth place also reported double-digit growths of 16.7% and 40.3% respectively. Meanwhile, Xiaomi rounded up the top five with the biggest growth year on year, after a remarkable 94.7% surge in shipments to reach 2 million units.
