According to a recent report by DealRoom, U.S. venture capital funding soared to a record-breaking $190.4 billion in 2024, marking a 30% increase compared to 2023. However, it is still shy of the 2021 figures when funding peaked.
This explosive growth outpaced the global VC market, which managed only a 6% year-on-year rise.
Solidifying its position as the leader in venture capital, the U.S. raised more funding than the rest of the world combined, a testament to the strength and innovation of its startup ecosystem.
The remarkable increase in U.S. venture capital was powered by massive mega-rounds, particularly in artificial intelligence, which continued to dominate investor interest.
Key players in this surge included OpenAI, xAI, Databricks and Anthropic, which raised $10 billion, $6.6 billion, $6 billion, and $4 billion, respectively. Over 60% of all venture funding in the U.S. last year came from rounds exceeding $100 million, reflecting the scale and ambition of the market.
While the rest of the world experienced a 14% decline in venture capital investment, the U.S. demonstrated resilience and strength.
Startups in Enterprise Software and Healthtech emerged as the most funded sectors, continuing to attract robust investor interest and highlighting their crucial role in shaping the future.
The dominance of U.S. tech hubs remained unchallenged, with six of the world’s top ten metro areas for venture funding located in the United States. The Bay Area, in particular, raised as much venture capital as the next seven hubs combined, solidifying its position as the epicentre of global innovation.
In 2024, over 4,600 funding rounds exceeding $2 million were closed by U.S. startups, further showcasing the vibrancy of the ecosystem.
As investors poured billions into transformative technologies like AI and bolstered key sectors, the U.S. venture capital market proved not only its resilience but also its ability to lead the world in innovation and economic growth.
