Many Mac users, like myself, have found themselves relying on the ChatGPT web app, which, let's face it, isn't always the most convenient option. Well, now, you can bid farewell to the hassles of web browsers as OpenAI launches a new ChatGPT desktop app - for Mac users (sorry Windows users).
OpenAI dropped the bomb during its highly anticipated livestream event yesterday, where it unveiled its latest marvel, GPT-4o, a groundbreaking model that combines text, vision, and audio capabilities.

Apart from just streamlining switching between browser tabs, the new Mac app offers a variety of new ways to interact with ChatGPT's powerful AI capabilities for both free and paid users. It is designed to integrate seamlessly into anything you’re doing on your computer.
With a convenient keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can instantly summon ChatGPT. The ChatGPT desktop app will appear in a small window, overlaying any existing program, ready to assist.
You can ask ChatGPT questions about what’s on your screen — whether by typing or saying it using ChatGPT's Voice Mode. The ChatGPT assistant would be able to "see" what is on your screen and troubleshoot any problems. You can also take screenshots and discuss them within the app.

Be it brainstorming sessions, presentation preparations, or engaging discussions, ChatGPT now stands ready to lend an ear and respond, even through voice interactions. Moreover, future integration of GPT-4o's enhanced audio and video functionalities promises to further boost ChatGPT's versatility as a desktop companion.
Alongside the desktop app release, OpenAI is also refining ChatGPT's web UI, with subtle enhancements to the home screen and message layout.
The Mac app is currently being rolled out to Plus users on Mac, with broader availability slated in the upcoming weeks, while a Windows version is on the horizon for later this year.
