It streamlines the experience, cutting down on the need to open your web browser.

After a five-month wait, Windows users can finally join the Mac crowd with the release of the native ChatGPT app. Just like the Mac version, the Windows app pops up in a handy window, making it super easy to access ChatGPT’s features with a quick Alt + Space shortcut.

This new setup really streamlines the experience, cutting down on the need to open your web browser, though it’s not a complete replacement just yet. For starters, the app doesn’t support voice features, including the Advanced Voice mode, and some functions from the GPT store are still missing. But don’t worry—these are likely to be added in future updates.

ChatGPT lands on MacOS with a new app
The new Mac app offers a variety of new ways to interact with ChatGPT’s powerful AI capabilities for both free and paid users.

On the bright side, you can still do many things you love, like brainstorming, uploading files and photos for summaries, and generating images with DALL-E 3. Plus, you’ll have access to OpenAI’s latest model, o1-preview.

The app works on most Windows laptops starting from Windows 10, but for now, it’s only available to premium subscribers, with plans to roll it out to everyone eventually. You can grab the app from the usual source, the Microsoft Store.

It’s nice to see ChatGPT catching up to other AI chatbots like Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot, which have had PC apps for a while now. Right now, Gemini has the edge with voice support, but as ChatGPT continues to evolve, it could easily become a staple in everyday workflows for users on both Mac and Windows.
