China locks down the biggest iPhone plant in Zhengzhou city

Chinese authorities have locked down a district in Zhengzhou city, which is home to Foxconn, the world's largest iPhone factory, under the country's rigid zero-Covid policy following a break out of the coronavirus in the factory.

Foxconn, which acts as a supplier to US-based tech giant Apple, has hundreds of thousands of workers at its Zhengzhou complex and produces the majority of Apple's new phones. The company had said that it'll give bonuses to workers in an effort to "gradually resume orderly production".

China continues to use strict lockdown measures to deal with Covid, a move which may have an impact on the production of the new iPhone 14 which is produced at Foxconn's plant in the city and could hurt the Christmas and Lunar New Year season sales for the smartphone giant.
