Instabul-based grocery delivery startup Getir is in talks to acquire a German competitor

Istanbul-based online grocery startup Getir is reportedly in talks to acquire its struggling German rival Flink, according to a report by Financial Times citing sources familiar with the matter.

This move comes as consolidation in the speedy grocery delivery sector accelerates, amid market instability due to the pandemic.

If the deal goes ahead, it would follow Getir's recent acquisitions of UK-based Weezy in November 2021 and Berlin-based rival Gorillas in December 2022, in a $1.2 billion deal that valued the combined group at $10 billion.

However, according to the sources, the talks with Flink are still ongoing and no agreement has been reached yet.

Getir's bid to acquire Flink which is also a grocery delivery app highlights the company's ambition to solidify its position as a leader in the rapidly growing online grocery market. The acquisition is poised to provide Getir with a significant boost in expanding its operations across Europe leaving US-based Gopuff as the only worthy competitor on the grocery-deliveries pitch.

With the many struggles in the online grocery delivery services market showing no signs of slowing down, the consolidation in the sector is expected to continue.
