Apple and Samsung continue to lead the tablet market, despite the market declining in 2022

Worldwide tablet shipments posted a decline of 3.3% year-over-year in 2022, totalling 162.8 million units, and ending two years of solid growth – although shipments remained well above pre-pandemic levels, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
For the fourth quarter in 2022, the tablet market saw a 0.3% decline year-over-year with 45.6 million units shipped in the quarter (a slowdown from 45.7 million units in 2021).
Meanwhile, Chromebook shipments saw a significant drop in 2022 – a 48% decline in the full-year 2022, after experiencing a 180.5% growth in 2021. In Q4 2022 only 3.6 million units were sold, a 24.3% YoY decline from the year prior.
Apple and Samsung continued to lead the tablet market, with Apple’s market share increasing by 4 percentage points in 2022 due to the launch of several new products.
