Gmail to Bring AI-Powered Email Summaries to Android
This addition is particularly welcomed for smartphone users grappling with lengthy or information-heavy emails.
Struggling to manage your Gmail inbox flooded with lengthy emails? Google is rolling out a new AI-powered summarization feature designed to simplify inbox management as part of its Gemini integration into its Gmail app.
Recently spotted by PiunikaWeb along with Gemini-powered reply suggestions in Gmail, Google is bringing a new "Summarize this email" button within the Gmail app on Android devices.
With just a tap on this button, the feature automatically extracts the key points from emails, allowing you to grasp the gist of a message in no time.
While Gmail already offers email summaries for Gemini for Workspace suite users, limited to the web version of the platform, the move to extend this feature to the Android app is hardly surprising. This addition is particularly welcomed for smartphone users grappling with lengthy or information-heavy emails.
This development stems from Google's plans to integrate Gemini into its Gmail app. It is set to be available to all Android users, however, this is yet to be confirmed as the feature is still in its early testing phase, so there is a possibility that Google could paywall the feature, although that seems unlikely.
But while AI summaries may encourage concise email communication, it's essential to recognize that they provide condensed versions of information. For detailed nuances, referring back to the original email may still be necessary.
Meanwhile, Google remains very tight-lipped about when the feature will be coming to its app on Android and iOS.
